The music is just as hard to pin down, from the six-minute "Greatest Man" (which sutures a sweet piano melody to thick power chords and fake crowd noise), "Heart Songs" (which unironically salutes Nirvana's "Nevermind" for inspiring frontman Rivers Cuomo to start his own band), the proto-Red Hot Chili Peppers funk of "Dreamin' " and the swaggering, riffy "Automatic," sung by drummer Pat Wilson.
"It definitely feels like there's a lot more of our energy that over the years has been kind of pent up and now has been released and is flowing freely between the four of us," Cuomo says.
