Creeper Lagoon Retools Lineup For New EP

Bay Area alternative rock act Creeper Lagoon is currently at work on an EP for Brooklyn independent label Arena Rock Recording Company with eyes on a late 2002 or early 2003 release, according to a label spokesperson.

"I'm hoping to turn it in by September," founding frontman Sharky Laguana posts on the band's official Web site, "so it should be released some time shortly after." The band -- now effectively Laguana and a newly assembled group following the departures of guitarist/vocalist Ian Sefchick, drummer David Kostiner, and bassist David Carr -- is also planning a winter or spring tour to promote the disc.

"I've only heard one track and it's the best song [Sharky's] ever done," says Arena Rock co-owner Greg Glover, who founded the label in 1995 with partner Dan Ralph. The EP -- which may be a one-off release for the label, as Creeper Lagoon are still signed to DreamWorks -- will follow up the outfit's 2001 major-label debut "Take Back the Universe and Give Me Yesterday."

Laguana reports that he is "also working on some wildly divergent material with the same group of musicians, and we have unanimously decided that this material is so different that it should really be considered another band altogether."

In a statement, DreamWorks said, "We are excited Sharky is putting out this EP on Arena Rock and excited to see what he does in the future. We love Creeper and if the new incarnation is looking for a major label home, we would love to put out their records."

As previously reported, Creeper Lagoon appears on the upcoming Kris Kristofferson tribute, "Nothing Left To Lose," due Oct. 8 from Incidental.
