Court Date Set In Charlotte Church Suit

The High Court in London will on Nov. 20 begin hearing the breach-of-contract action filed against teenage soprano Charlotte Church and her parents by her former manager Jonathan Shalit.

Shalit was dismissed by her parents, James and Maria Church, earlier this year. The contract with London-based Shalit Entertainment, under which the firm earned 20% commission on Church's defined income, was not due to expire until March 2001, according to court papers. Shalit is seeking more than £50,000 ($75,000) in damages.

Meanwhile, Church, who took the British artist of the year honor at the inaugural Classical Brit Awards in May, will later this month begin recording her third album for Sony Music, a collection of Christmas carols, for release by year's end.
