Country's Eddie Rabbitt Dead At 53

Country singer Eddie Rabbitt, diagnosed with lung cancer last year, died May 7. He was 53. His last album, "Beatin' The Odds," was released on Intersound last September.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in East Orange, N.J., Rabbitt took a bus to Nashville in 1968 and came to prominence two years later when Elvis Presley recorded his "Kentucky Rain." In 1974, he signed with Elektra; he subsequently recorded for Warner Bros., RCA, Universal, and Capitol. He crossed over to the pop charts many times, with such songs as "Drivin' My Life Away," "I Love A Rainy Night," "Every Which Way But Loose," and his duet with Crystal Gayle, "You And I.
