Country Acts Salute Jones On 'God's Country'

Vince Gill, Pam Tillis, Sammy Kershaw, Mark Chesnutt and Tracy Lawrence are the first acts confirmed to participate in the George Jones tribute album "God's Country." Due in mid-October via Category 5 Records, the project will be led by a rendition of the title track performed by Jones himself.

Gill will cover "She Thinks I Still Care," while Tillis handles "Take Me" and Lawrence redoes "The One I Loved Back Then (The Corvette Song)." Kershaw is confirmed to perform the Jones classic "He Stopped Loving Her Today," while Joe Diffie offers a version of "White Lightning."

"God's Country" coincides not only with Jones' impending 75th birthday, but his highly anticipated collaborative album with Merle Haggard, "Kickin' Out the Footlights ... Again."

Jones will be on the road for the rest of the year, with his next show scheduled for Friday (Aug. 4) in Eaton, Ohio.
