Combs Up For Fashion Award

Hip-hop entrepreneur Sean Combs is among the nominees for the American Fashion Awards, to be presented June 14 at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). His Sean John clothing line is nominated for the Perry Ellis Menswear Award for new talent. ORFI and William Reid also are nominated.

Calvin Klein will receive a lifetime achievement award. He's also nominated for womenswear designer of the year.

A panel of editors, journalists and retailers chose the nominees. The CFDA membership and board of directors selected recipients of the lifetime achievement award and other special awards.

Combs -- who was recently acquitted of charges of carrying an illegal handgun into a crowded Manhattan nightclub in December 1999, and of related bribery charges -- last month announced he'd be dropping his "Puffy" moniker in favor of another nickname, "P. Diddy."
