Colbie Caillat Cruising To First No. 1 Album

by Keith Caulfield, L.A.  |   August 27, 2009 8:13 EDT

Singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat is on track to score her first No. 1 album next week with her sophomore release "Breakthrough." Industry prognosticators predict that the Universal Republic set may sell in the neighborhood of 90,000 to 100,000 copies in its first week, which would easily place it atop both the Billboard 200 chart and the Top Comprehensive Albums tally.

Her first album, 2007's "Coco," opened at No. 5 with 51,000, but saw its best sales week over the Christmas frame of that year, when it moved 141,000. So far, "Coco" has blown through 1.96 million copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Other acts looking to make big bows on the Billboard 200 next week include Imogen Heap's RCA set "Ellipse" and Skillet's INO/Atlantic effort "Awake." Both titles look good for a top 10 entry. Another couple albums may skirt the edge of the top 10 in their first week out: Arctic Monkeys' "Humbug," LeToya's "Lady Love" and Matisyahu's "Light."

Nielsen SoundScan's sales tracking week, as reflected in Billboard's sales charts, runs from Monday through Sunday of each week. Next week's album and singles charts will be revealed on Wednesday, Sept. 2 and will reflect data through the week ending Sunday, Aug. 30.
