Chris Brown Lines Up 'Virginia Stand Up!' Benefit

by Mitchell Peters, L.A.  |   April 28, 2010 4:05 EDT

After participating in several charitable events in recent months, including BET's Haiti telethon in February, Chris Brown wanted to align with a good cause that would bring attention to his home state of Virginia.

"He said, 'I'd really like to do something that puts Richmond on the map and shows that they care about what's going on in the world with other people,'" says Karen Lee, who serves as a consultant for Brown's philanthropic activities.

So the R&B singer agreed to headline and host the Virginia Stand Up! A Call to Action benefit concert on May 15 at the Siegel Center on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Joining Brown for the show are Keri Hilson, Ryan Leslie, Mario, Juelz Santana, T-Pain, Tank and Trey Songz.

Tickets for Virginia Stand Up! A Call to Action are on sale at ticketmaster.com with prices ranging between $29.75 and $59.75. Live Nation and Haymon Events are producing the event.

Half of the proceeds from the benefit concert will be given to the Greater Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross for Haiti relief, and the other half will go to the Central Virginia Food Bank. Fans are also being encouraged to bring non-perishable food items that can be dropped off at marked receptacles at the venue.

"[Brown] felt good about both of those because it was going to do something for the people at home, and it was also going to do something for the Haitian relief efforts," Lee says. "It's been very important to him that this not be about Chris Brown, but that it's about the city of Richmond giving back."
