Cheryl Cole scored her second solo U.K. No. 1 single with "Promise This" (Polydor/Universal) to hold Rihanna's "Only Girl (In The World)" (Def Jam/Universal) to a runner-up debut.

Kings of Leon's "Come Around Sundown" (Hand Me Down/Sony Music Entertainment) started a second week atop the Official Charts Company's albums chart last night (Oct. 31).

Cole's new success follows last year's No. 1 "Fight For This Love" and previews her second solo album outside the ranks of Girls Aloud, "Messy Little Raindrops," out in the U.K. today (Nov. 1). Opening sales of more than 157,000 were the year's best for a non-charity single, according to the Official Charts Company. Rihanna's single recorded very strong sales for a No. 2 debut of more than 126,000. Last week's chart-topper, Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are (Amazing)" (Elektra/Atlantic), fell to No. 3.

There were top ten climbs for Mike Posner's "Cooler Than Me" (J/Sony Music Entertainment), 6-5, and Nelly's "Just A Dream" (Universal), 11-8, while Michael Bublé's "Hollywood" (Reprise/Warner Music) climbed 27-11. Arriving inside the top 20 were Swedish DJ Tim Berg's dance hit "Seek Bromance" (Ministry of Sound) at No. 13, Peter Andre's "Defender" (Conehead) at No. 14 and "Runaway" (Universal Island) by Devlin featuring Yasmin at No. 15.

Kings of Leon recorded a second week atop an album survey featuring Buble's "Crazy Love" surging back 7-2 in its 54th appearance on the chart, in its new double-CD edition.

Former "X Factor" winner Joe McElderry's debut album "Wide Awake" (Syco Music/Sony Music Entertainment) started at No. 3, pop band the Wanted's self-titled first album for Geffen/Universal at No. 4 and Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" (Mercury/Universal) at No. 6. Barbra Streisand's "The Ultimate Collection" (Sony Legacy) debuted at No. 8 and the Soldiers' "Letters  Home" (Rhino/Warner Music) at No. 10, with Elton John and Leon Russell's "The Union" (Mercury/Universal) at No. 12. Bryan Ferry's "Olympia" (Virgin/EMI) took its bow at No. 19.

Billboard's pan-European charts have the Kings of Leon title arriving at No. 1 on European Albums, and "Love The Way You Lie" (Interscope/Universal) by Eminem featuring Rihanna leading European Hot 100 Singles for a fifth week.
