As expected, actress/singer Cher has been added to the roster of headliners at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Through a partnership with concert promoter AEG Live, which oversees programming at the 4,100-capacity facility, the 61-year-old artist will perform approximately 200 shows over the next three years, beginning May 6.

Cher will perform 90-minute concerts at Caesars Palace four nights a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets for shows from May 6 through Aug. 31 went on sale today (Feb. 7), with prices ranging between $95 and $250. Choreographed by Doriana Sanchez, with lighting, special effects and costume design by fashion icon Bob Mackie, the new show will feature 18 dancers and aerialists.

Cher joins a list of high profile headliners at Caesars Palace, including Elton John, Jerry Seinfeld and Bette Midler, who will launch her two-year stint at the Las Vegas theatre on Feb. 20. Celine Dion's five-year residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, which ended Dec. 15, grossed $385 million and drew nearly 3 million people to 717 shows. The $95 million facility opened in 2003 with the purpose of housing Dion's show.

"We've really created a new performance mode for popular artists," John Meglen, co-president of Concerts West, a touring arm of AEG Live, tells Billboard.com. "[An artist] can shut down their touring for a few years and do a residency like this, and there is no better market in the world than Vegas to do this."

Cher's three-year Living Proof Farewell Tour, which concluded in 2005, played 273 shows in North America, grossing $192.5 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. The only other female artist to break that touring record is Madonna, whose 2006 global Confessions run took in just under $195 million from 60 shows that drew more than 1.2 million in paid attendance.
