Also up for song of the year are You Am I's "Damage" (Festival Music), Slim Dusty's "Looking Forward Looking Back" (Rondor), and Powderfinger's "My Happiness" (Festival). Songwriter Don Walker (Rondor) scored three nominations; earning two each are Savage Garden's Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones and composers Charlie Chan and Carl Vine.
To celebrate its 75th anniversary this year, APRA conducted an industry survey to compile the top 30 Australian songs of the past 75 years. The top-10 will be announced at the awards ceremony.
At last year's event, Savage Garden picked up three awards, including songwriter of the year for Hayes and Jones (who also won that award in 1998). The group's "Animal Song" was the most-performed Australian work; "Truly Madly Deeply," from the debut 1996 "Savage Garden" album, made APRA history by winning its category -- most-performed Australian work -- a second time in a row.
