Cartel Splits With Epic, Signs With Wind-Up

Comments

Former reality TV subject Cartel has parted ways with Epic and inked a new multi-rights deal with Wind-Up. The band will release its future albums through Wind-Up, and the sale of all Cartel merchandise at on-line, retail, and touring points of sale will be handled by Wind-up Entertainment's Pronto Merch.

The Atlanta band self-released its first EP, "Ransom," in 2004, and its debut album, "Chroma," came out via the Militia Group in 2005. That album was then re-released in 2006 by Epic, and has since sold 240,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

As its fame was on the rise, Cartel was the subject of the MTV show "Band in the Bubble," during the summer of 2007. Cameras followed the band as it attempted to record an album in a see-through space suspended above the Hudson River. The self-titled set was released later that year but has sold just 85,000 copies.

Cartel is currently writing its third album, which is being eyed for an early 2009 release. The band will be co-headline the Crocs Next Step Campus Tour later this summer alongside Yung Joc, which runs from Aug. 29 through Sept. 26.
