Swedish modern rockers the Cardigans are planning a return with their fifth full-length album, "Long Gone Before Daylight." The U.K. release of the set is due in March on Stockholm/Polydor. "After a long pause allowing the band members to rest and work on solo projects (Nina [Persson]'s A Camp, Magnus [Sveningsson]'s Righteous Boy, and Peter [Svensson]'s and Titiyo's "Come Along"), the Cardigans are back! We've decided to give it a shot, one more time and think we are not too old to rock'n'roll," the group writes on its official Web site.

The album was produced and engineered by the band with Per Sunding, with music by guitarist Svensson and lyrics by lead singer Persson. Recording began in Tambourine Studios in Malmo, Sweden, progressing to Malaga in Spain, then onto Parkgate Studios in the historic English town of Battle in East Sussex. During the English sessions, Persson traveled back home to collect four Grammisgalan Awards (the Swedish equivalent of the Grammys) for 2001's "A Camp" album. Recording then moved to Visby, the only major city on the Swedish island of Gotland, and was completed back in Malmo.

A preview of songs from "Long Gone Before Daylight" suggests a more acoustic approach than on the Cardigans' last album, 1998's "Gran Turismo," with far less electric guitar and a much more unplugged feel. Titles include the reflective "And Then You Kissed Me" and the ballad "Communication."

"Gran Turismo," peaked at a disappointing No. 151 on The Billboard 200, after its predecessor, "First Band on the Moon," topped out at No. 35 in February 1997. That set spawned the international smash single "Lovefool," which hit No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart and No. 5 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music: Club Play chart.
