Beautiful weather was out again for the second day of the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle on Sunday (Sept. 2), with Fergie turning in a spectacle-laden headlining performance at Memorial Stadium and Kings Of Leon powering through a set of groove-laden Southern rock as Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready watched from side stage.
In what was somewhat of an unusually pop-leaning booking for Bumbershoot, Fergie turned out hits like her current Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper, "Big Girls Don't Cry," and Black Eyed Peas staples like "My Humps" while alternately decked out in a tiara, leggings, a green hoodie and a jewel-encrusted plaid skirt.
Earlier on the same stage, Kings Of Leon were at the top of their game on tracks like "Taper Jean Girl," "Molly's Chambers," "The Bucket," "On Call," "Knocked Up" and "Trani." It was rumored that Vedder would make a guest appearance with the group, following a two-song stint with Crowded House a day earlier, but instead he cheered Kings Of Leon on from the wings.
Having detoured into country and acoustic music in recent years, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club leaned heavily on the loud rock side of its sound during the first Memorial Stadium set of the day, with highlights including "Shuffle Your Feet," "Six Barrel Shotgun" and the sprawling closer "American X."
The second day of Bumbershoot also boasted performances from dancehall star Sean Paul, who drew an overflow crowd to the Stadium, Stars Of Track And Field, Devendra Banhart, Andrew Bird, the Watson Twins and the Apples In Stereo, among many others.
The festival, which is expected to draw 150,000 fans to Seattle center over the course of its three days, concludes tonight with John Legend, Lupe Fiasco, the Wu-Tang Clan, Joss Stone, the Frames and Steve Earle.
