Browne, Rucker, Others Tapped For Benefit

Jackson Browne, Hootie & the Blowfish's Darius Rucker, former Police drummer Steward Copeland, and singer/songwriter Michelle Shocked are among the artists participating in the Vinx & Friends Benefit. Taking place Monday night (Feb. 19) at the House Of Blues in Los Angeles, the event is being organized by percussionist/vocalist Vinx to benefit the Lili Claire Foundation.

Other artists slated to appear include Brenda Russell, the Che Guevari Allstars (featuring members of Ozomatli), Patrice Rushen, Sonja Marie, Vance Gilbert, and Maby. Tickets to the event are available for $30 via the House Of Blues box office and Ticketmaster.

Established in 1998, the Lili Claire Foundation assists those born with Williams syndrome and other neurogenetic birth defects. Vinx' Los Angeles-based studio, StankFish, has been working on an all-star benefit CD of lullabies to benefit the foundation, but a burglary of the studio late last year has halted the project until it can be re-equipped.

Formerly signed to Sting's Pangaea label, Vinx has appeared on recordings by Stevie Wonder, Cassandra Wilson, DJ Knowledge, and Sting, who "discovered" him in a club in the early 1990s. Although currently without a recording contract, in December he made "Vinx Demos," a 14-track disc of unmixed and unmastered studio recordings available via his Web site.
