Bret Michaels is denying a report that he popped the question to his longtime girlfriend, Kristi Lynn Gibson.
"No. We are not engaged yet," said Michaels on CBS' "The Early Show," where he appeared Wednesday morning (July 14) to promote his new album, "Custom Built." "We're a work in progress."
Star reported otherwise on Tuesday, claiming that the Poison frontman proposed to Gibson after the Fourth of July weekend. An anonymous source told the gossip rag that Michaels was a changed man after suffering a brain hemorrhage in April and felt it was time to make a long-term commitment. "He's woken up," said the source. "He now knows he wants to be a husband."

Though Gibson has been seen wearing a large diamond ring, Michaels said today that the rock does not represent an engagement. "[It's] a promise ring ... a friendship ring, with benefits," Michaels said. "That's what we call it."
Gibson and Michaels have been dating on and off for 16 years and have two children -- Raine Elizabeth, 10, and Jorja Bleu, 5.
