Brad Takes New Material On The Road

Seattle rock outfit Brad has lined up a five-date West Coast tour to road test material from its third album, which has yet to be titled or secured for label distribution. The group -- which features Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard on guitar and three former members of Satchel (lead singer/keyboardist Shawn Smith, drummer Regan Hagar, and bassist Mike Berg) -- begins the trek Nov. 26 in Portland, Ore.

For the shows, Brad will be augmented by multi-instrumentalist Thaddeus Turner and percussionist Elizabeth Pupo-Walker. In September, the group played its first shows since 1997 during a three-night stand at Seattle's Breakroom, debuting new songs such as "Yesterday's Gone," "Where the Fun Is," and "Shining." Videoclips of the latter, plus the previously released album tracks "Secret Girl" and "Upon My Shoulders" are available on the Brad page at Pearl Jam's official Web site.

Earlier this fall, Gossard told Billboard that the group is "a little less self-conscious about this record than we were about [the 1997 Epic album] 'Interiors.' We went into that kind of thinking we needed to make a hit record. This one showcases Shawn's melodies. He's just got melodies after melodies. He writes beautiful songs."

"Interiors" debuted at No. 30 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and has sold 49,000 units in the U.S., according to SoundScan. Its 1993 predecessor, "Shame," opened at No. 14 on the same chart and went on to sell 70,000 copies.

Gossard issued his own solo debut, "Bayleaf," in September. As for Pearl Jam, look for the group to begin work on its seventh Epic studio album sometime after the New Year.

Here are Brad's tour dates:

Nov. 26: Portland, Ore. (Roseland Theatre)
Nov. 28: Hollywood, Calif. (Viper Room)
Nov. 29: Los Angeles (Troubadour)
Nov. 30: San Francisco (Great American Music Hall)
Dec. 2: Seattle (Showbox)
