Blues Foundation Postpones Awards

The Blues Foundation has postponed until fall 2002 the presentation of its lifetime achievement awards to singer/guItarist Buddy Guy and Sun Records founder Sam Phillips, Billboard Bulletin reports. The foundation's executive director, Howard Stovall, says, "We would rather present a top-level show next year than present something that does not include the people most appropriate to pay tribute to the enormous influence both these men have left on American music."

Previous recipients of the organization's lifetime achievement award include Ray Charles, Ruth Brown, Etta James, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Ahmet Ertegun, B.B. King, and the late John Lee Hooker.

As previously reported, the awards show was originally set for Oct. 22 at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.
