Blink-182's DeLonge Suits Up Boxcar Racer

Blink-182 guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge has recorded an album with his side project Boxcar Racer, due to be released May 14 on MCA. Featuring Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and guitarist Dave Kennedy of punk band Over My Dead Body, the group is planning a short run of live shows with a stand-in bassist this spring.

DeLonge wrote all the songs, sang lead vocals, and recorded all the lead guitar and bass parts for the album, which was produced by Jerry Finn (Blink-182, Green Day, Sum 41). His Blink-182 cohort Mark Hoppus contributed vocals to one of the album's tracks.

"This record is directly influenced by the bands that mean the most to me -- Fugazi, Refused, and, of course, Blink-182," DeLonge said in a statement. "It's a tribute to the music that made me want to be in a band in the first place."

Blink-182 will be on the road this summer with Green Day and Jimmy Eat World on the Pop Disaster Tour. The group's most recent album, "Take off Your Pants and Jacket," debuted atop The Billboard 200 last June, and is currently No. 129 in its 34th week on the chart. Latest single "First Date" is No. 18 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart.
