Billboard To Honor Banda El Recordo, Soraya

Comments

Banda El Recodo and Soraya will receive special honors at the 2004 Billboard Latin Music Awards. The show is set for April 29 at the Miami Arena and will be broadcast live on Telemundo.

Banda El Recodo will receive the Hall of Fame Award for career achievement, recognizing its 65 years of popularizing Mexico's banda music. Singer/songwriter Soraya will receive the Spirit of Hope Award for her humanitarian work in the fight against breast cancer.

Winners of the special honors are selected by an editorial committee from Billboard magazine. Previous recipients of the Hall of Fame Award include Armando Manzanero, Marco Antonio Solis, Los Lobos and Mongo Santamaria. The Spirit of Hope Award has previously been awarded to El General, Mana, Ricky Martin and Olga Tañon.

As previously reported, Banda El Recodo, Gloria Estefan, Paulina Rubio, Alejandro Fernandez, Pilar Montenegro and La Ley are among the performers set for the event. The late Celia Cruz tops the finalists for the awards with seven.
