Salsa superstar Marc Anthony, Latin pop diva Paulina Rubio, balladeer Christian Castro and hip-hop act Akwid have joined the performance lineup for the 2005 Billboard Latin Music Awards. The April 28 event at Florida's Miami Arena will be broadcast live on Telemundo and hosted by soap opera star Saul Lisazo and renowned Spanish television personality Candela Ferro.
Rubio, who will launch a U.S. tour the day after the show, is up for five awards, including Latin pop album of the year, female for "Pau-Latina." Meanwhile, Anthony's "Valio La Pena" and "Amar Sin Mentiras" have him listed as a finalist in four categories, including Top Latin Albums artist of the year and Awkwid is up for Latin rap/hip-hop album of the year for "KOMP 104.9 Radio Compa."
In addition to the newly confirmed artists, the Billboard Latin Music Awards ceremony already boasts previously announced performers Marco Antonio Solis, Juanes, Thalia, Juan Luis Guerra, Olga Tañon, Conjunto Primavera, Franco de Vita, Aleks Syntek, AB Quintanilla III and Daddy Yankee. Additional acts are expected to join the bill.
As previously reported, Solis is the leading finalist with mentions in eight categories as a solo artist and with Los Bukis. He is also due to receive the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award, given by the magazine in recognition of an outstanding career and artistic achievements.
The awards will bring to a close the 16th annual >Billboard Latin Music Conference, to be held April 25-28 at the Hotel Intercontinental in Miami.
