Billboard Bits: Will Smith, Brandy, Geri Halliwell

Will Smith, the rapper/actor from Philadelphia once known as the "Fresh Prince," has officially signed on to star in "Ali," the long-planned biopic of boxer Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali. Smith -- who has starred in several films, including "Wild Wild West," "Independence Day," and "Six Degrees Of Separation," and will be seen later this year in the Robert Redford-directed "The Legend of Bagger Vance" -- has reportedly been
working out in preparation for his role in the film, which will be directed by Michael Mann ("The Insider," "Heat").

Brandy, David Foster, James Newton Howard, and Warner/Chappell chairman/CEO Les Bider will receive the Governors Award at a June 15 luncheon hosted by the Los Angeles chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The awards recognize industry and philanthropic accomplishments.

Geri Halliwell, formerly known as "Ginger Spice" through her tenure as a member of the Spice Girls, has agreed to star in the film "Therapy." The U.K.'s Sun tabloid reports that Halliwell will star as a patient who has an affair with her therapist. Aside from concert films, Halliwell's only prior big screen work has been as "Ginger" in the 1997 Spice Girls
vehicle "Spice World."
