Billboard Bits: White Stripes, Redwalls, Porcupine Tree

Comments

White"Blue Orchid" has been chosen as the first single from the White Stripes' upcoming Third Man/V2 studio album, according to a spokesperson. As previously reported, the as-yet-untitled set is due June 14; the single will be commercially available later this month in the United Kingdom.

As with the new album's predecessor, 2003's "Elephant," advance copies will only be made available to journalists in vinyl form. The set will be premiered for the media next week in New York.

The White Stripes have confirmed a handful of spring shows, including a three-date run in Mexico beginning May 11 in Monterrey, and a June 10 visit to Atlanta's Music Midtown festival. Also newly added is a June 24 appearance at the U.K.'s Glastonbury festival.

TreeAlong with the April 26 release of Porcupine Tree's "Deadwing," the progressive rock act's latest album will emerge in several different versions. A 5.1-channel surround sound disc will be available on May 10 through DTS Entertainment, which last year released a similar version of the U.K. band's 2002 set "In Absentia."

In addition to the enhanced audio, that set will also include three bonus tracks ("Mother and Child Divided," "Revenant" and "Half-Light"), a making-of-the-album feature and a photo gallery.

Additionally, a two-disc version packaged with a 72-page hardbound book can be ordered through the band's
official Web site. A two-disc vinyl version will be available through Gates of Dawn, a vinyl-only label specializing in deluxe collectable editions.

"Shallow," the first U.S. radio single from "Deadwing," debuts this week at No. 37 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks airplay chart. Meanwhile, Porcupine Tree is in the midst of a European tour that plays Glasgow tonight (April 8). A North American tour will open May 13 in Washington, D.C.
