Vampire Weekend Cover Girl Speaks


Ann Kirsten Kennis, the model whose photo appears on the cover of Vampire Weekend's sophomore album "Contra," opened up to Vanity Fair about her $2 million misappropriation-of-image lawsuit against the band, its label XL Recordings and the picture's photographer, Tod Brody. "It felt like someone was exploiting me… Who do these people think they are that they can just take my picture and plaster it everywhere?" says Kennis, who says she was never approached by the band and has never met Brody. Kennis, 52, modeled in magazine and TV advertisements for L'Oreal, Revlon, Cuervo and others during the 1980s and early 1990s. (Vanity Fair)

 

Phish Issues Fall Tour Details


Phish has announced the dates of their October tour, which will hit smaller arenas in secondary markets, according to Spinner. The 15-date trek kicks off at the Austin City Limits music festival on Oct. 8 and will close with a three-night stand in Atlantic City, NJ, where the jam band will perform its annual Halloween tradition of covering a classic album in its entirety. Björk Releases Video for Animated Film Track


Björk has issued the video for "The Comet Song," a track written for the Finnish animated film "Moomins and the Comet Chase," Pitchfork reports. The track was released on iTunes today (Aug. 24), and all the proceeds are going to UNICEF Pakistan childrens' charities. ( Pitchfork)

 

Swizz Beatz Celebrates YRB Cover, Renames Album


Swizz Beatz brought out his celebrity friends last night (Aug.23) to celebrate his new YRB Magazine art cover at Lucky Strikes bowling alley in New York City. Mary J. Blige, Nipsey Hussle, Estelle, Joe Budden and Mickey Factz were among the artists enjoying the DJ sets by S&S and Kalkutta and the Ciroc cocktails. Swizz also recently tweeted that his upcoming album, previously titled "The Perception of Greatness," will now be dubbed "Haute Living."

 

Sheryl Crow Opens Breast Cancer Detection Center


The Sheryl Crow Imaging Center, which offers digital screening and diagnostic technologies for the detection of breast cancer, opened today (Aug. 24) in Los Angeles, accord to Us Magazine. The singer and breast cancer survivor worked with the the Pink Lotus Breast Center to launch the facility, which she called a "wonderful platform to create awareness and encourage the millions of American women over 40 to get their annual mammogram." The Swell Season Plans Hiatus


Oscar-winning folk-rockers The Swell Season have announced that its two members, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, plan to work on different projects after wrapping up a fall European tour, according to Spinner. The news comes after a fan reportedly committed suicide at the duo's California concert last week, although Hansard says that the hiatus is not a result of the recent tragedy. (Spinner)
