De La SoulThe first 50,000 copies of the just released reissue of De La Soul's 1989 Tommy Boy debut "3 Feet High and Rising" are packaged with an extra disc of remixes and bonus tracks. Included on the 14-track disc are "Ain't Hip to Be Labeled a Hippie," "Freedom of Speak (We Got Three Minutes)," "Brain Washed Follower," and others from the recording sessions for the landmark hip-hop album. Also featured are alternate mixes of album tracks "Jenifa (Taught Me)," "Potholes in My Lawn," "Say No Go," "Ghetto Thang," "Eye Know," and "Me Myself and I."

The digitally remastered "3 Feet High and Rising" reissue comes as part of Tommy Boy's 20th anniversary celebration. Other classic albums from the label's catalog to re-emerge include Jonzun Crew's "Lost in Space," Afrika Bambaataa and Soul Sonic Force's "Looking for the Perfect Beat," and Stetsasonic's "On Fire" (1986) and "In Full Gear" (1988). Also just released is a reissue of label's 1998 five-disc box set "Tommy Boy's Greatest Beats 1981-1996," which features tracks by TKA, Information Society, Queen Latifah, Digital Underground, Naughty By Nature, House Of Pain, Coolio, and more.

As previously reported, on Dec. 4 De La Soul will release "Bionix," the second in a planned trilogy under the "Art Official Intelligence" moniker. Due to be released in original and clean CD versions, as well as a double-vinyl instrumental version, the set follows the 2000 release "Mosaic Thump," which debuted at No. 9 on The Billboard 200 and reached No. 3 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Preceding the album will be the Nov. 6 12" vinyl release of first single "Baby Fat" featuring Devin the Dude, backed with the track "Watch Out."

Noddy HolderNoddy Holder and Jim Lea, the writing team behind '70s U.K. band Slade, were among the honorees at the British Academy of Composers & Songwriters' (BACS) 27th Gold Badge Awards, presented yesterday (Oct. 10) in London, Billboard Bulletin reports. The duo penned almost all of the material for the pop-rock outfit, including six U.K. No. 1 singles. Receiving the award, Holder quipped that thanks to renewed use of the act's catalog in recent years, "the bank manager sends us very nice letters these days."

Other honorees at the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society-sponsored event included singer/actress Anita Harris, bandleader Ken Mackintosh, composer and former Shadows drummer Brian Bennett, producer/writer and former Shadows guitarist Bruce Welch, and '60s folkie Donovan. The awards are decided by a committee of BACS members
