Tom Petty was in a celebratory mood last night (Sept. 26) at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, coercing Jeff Lynne on stage to perform the Traveling Wilburys' hit "Handle With Care" with he and the Heartbreakers in front of a sold-out crowd. "It's a treat because we can never get this guy out," Petty joked of Lynne.
As she has throughout the Heartbreakers' 2006 tour, Stevie Nicks joined the band for "Stop Dragging My Heart Around," "I Need To Know" and "Insider," and remained on stage playing tambourine for tracks like "Learning To Fly" and "Don't Come Around Here No More."
The Heartbreakers also dusted off Van Morrison's "Mystic Eyes," the pre-Nicks Fleetwood Mac classic "Oh Well" and Bo Diddley's "I'm a Man." The group heads to San Diego tonight, featuring opening act Beck.
U2 frontman Bono has signed on as the first guest on musician/producer David A. Stewart's upcoming music-themed interview show for HBO. Described as "musicians on musicians," the show will feature the Eurythmics member interviewing fellow artists about their craft. One of the show's producers, Jimmy Iovine, runs U2's Interscope Records label.
The pay cable network has ordered six half-hour episodes of the show to air early next year. Meanwhile, U2 and Green Day's Monday performance of the Skids' "The Saints Are Coming" at the official reopening of the Superdome in New Orleans is available for download from Rhapsody to benefit musicians from the area ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.
Revered vocalist Siouxsie Sioux has signed with the new Universal imprint W14 and will begin recording a new album before the end of the year. "I am really excited about making new music," the artist said in a statement. "I have various collaborators in mind and am itching to get back in the studio."
Siouxsie's last album was the Creatures' 2003 set "Hai!," which the band released on its own.
