The Teddy Pendergrass Alliance (TPA), a non-profit organization started by legendary singer Teddy Pendergrass, will host a June 10 benefit at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center to benefit spinal cord injury survivors.
"Teddy 25" will be hosted by comedienne Mo'Nique, and will boast performances by Patti La Belle, Ruben Studdard and Stephanie Mills, among others. Pendergrass, who was paralyzed from the waist down after a near-fatal 1982 car crash, will premiere a new song written specifically for the occasion.
Pendergrass, who after 19 years away from the stage returned in May 2001 for a sold-out concert tour, was inducted in 2005 into the SCI (Spinal Cord Injury) Hall of Fame for his work with injured individuals.
San Francisco-based retailer Amoeba Records will exclusively release a live TV On The Radio EP on March 27.
The four-track disc will be exclusive to Amoeba's three California stores -- San Francisco, Berkeley and Los Angeles -- for 30 days after its initial release, said the company's marketing director Kara Lane during an indie retail panel Friday at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas.
Lane, who also books in-stores for the Los Angeles location, said Amoeba intends to start streaming its in-stores online in the coming months. The company already has a video archive on select in-stores, including TV On The Radio's Sept. 22, 2006, date in Los Angeles.
John Mellencamp will debut exclusive live performances tomorrow (March 20) via Rehearsals.com, CenterStaging's online digital portal.
The singer and his longtime band will offer "Our Country" and "Someday," from Mellencamp's current release "Freedom's Road" (Ume/Universal Republic), as well as his classic "Paper in Fire."
Rehearsals.com currently showcases live footage from artists such as Tom Petty, Taylor Hicks, Norah Jones, the Panic Channel and Ozomatli.
