Oprah Winfrey Inspired by Michael Jackson

In a new interview, Oprah Winfrey reveals that Michael Jackson's negative self-perception led to the decision for the talk show host to launch the Oprah Winfrey Network, her own cable TV channel. Winfrey says that she wanted to take a risk on the Network and not "chase the phenomenon" of her talk show in the same way that Jackson tried to follow up "Thriller" with an even bigger album. "I thought, I don't want to be Michael Jackson," says Winfrey.

Flaming Lips Releasing New Material Every Month Starting in January

Are the Flaming Lips borrowing a page from Kanye West? The psych-rock veterans plan to return to the studio soon with producer Dave Fridmann and release new songs every month, with the first batch of new music due in January. "Not that I think the old way was boring, but to spend another two years with the same 13 songs, it's just like fuck," says frontman Wayne Coyne. "I think we're going to just start to do things and put it out. Once we get 11 or 12 songs together, maybe we'll do something else with it." ( Rolling Stone)

Last Night's Gorillaz Show Their Last Ever?

With Gorillaz' "Escape to Plastic Beach" tour wrapping up last night in Auckland, UK's Vector Arena, frontman Damon Albarn has hinted that the performance may be the last ever for the group in its current form. "For us, this is the last time... we all hope and pray on this stage, and [for] all the people that work with us, that we will get a chance to work together as a collective again. But we may never do that again," he told the crowd. Gorillaz will release new album "The Fall" to fanclub members on Saturday. (NME)
