Billboard Bits: Stereophonics, Ween, and more

Comments

Members of the U.K. rock act Stereophonics have set a nine-date North American acoustic tour, which will kick off Feb. 5 in Atlanta and wrap Feb. 17 in San Francisco. The band plans to unveil material from its forthcoming V2 album "J.E.E.P (Just Enough Education To Perform)," due out this spring. The new set is the follow-up to 1999's "Performance And Cocktails," which spawned three top-5 hits on the U.K. singles chart. Here are the Stereophonics' tour dates: Feb. 5: Atlanta (Cotton Club) Feb. 7: New York (Irving Plaza) Feb. 8: Boston (Paradise) Feb. 9: Washington, D.C. (9:30 Club) Feb. 12: Toronto (Opera House) Feb. 13: Chicago (Double Door) Feb. 14: Minneapolis (400 Bar) Feb. 16: Los Angeles (El Rey Theatre) Feb. 17: San Francisco (Slim's Club) -- Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Although Ween recently parted company with Elektra Records after six albums, the cult favorite duo is keeping busy writing music for two television shows. The group has recorded the theme song and incidental music for the new Fox sitcom "Grounded For Life," which premieres Wednesday (Jan. 10). Ween has also written a song for the Nickelodeon animated series "Spongebob Squarepants." "Doing music for these shows has been challenging, fun (and relatively easy), but don't worry, we fully intend on keeping it real," Mickey "Dean Ween" Melchiondo writes on the group's official Web site. "We are, after all, a bunch of scumbags in a rock band."
Electronic animated greeting cards featuring music from Barenaked Ladies, k.d. lang, Paula Cole, Joni Mitchell, and Chris Isaak will be the first fruits of a strategic alliance between Warner Bros. and Egreetings.com. The online card and entertainment company will create cards that utilize the music of both new and established Warner Bros. and Reprise artists. While the free cards will be available from Egreetings.com, the agreement allows for display of the e-cards on label and artist sites, and the creation of specialized promotional cards for Warner Bros. artists.
