Billboard Bits: Staind, DJ Quik, Broken Social Scene

Comments

QuikStaind drew approximately 10,000 fans to the fourth show of the previously announced Fusion Flash Concerts series, which features top acts performing amid circumstances that are not announced until the last minute. The show at Boson's City Hall Plaza also marked yesterday's release of Staind's new Atlantic album, ?V,? which has spawned the rock airplay hit ?Right Here.?

This morning, the group was in New York to perform that track on ?The Howard Stern Show.? Staind also composed a spontaneous ode to ?Stern? show regular ?Beetlejuice? that is undoubtedly destined for repeated airplays on future editions of the program.

Staind continues its North American tour with 3 Doors Down Aug. 16 in Concord, Calif.

QuikHip-hop veteran DJ Quik will inaugurate his new Mad Science label with the Sept. 13 release of the album "Trauma." The set is led by the single "Fandango" featuring Cypress Hill's B-Real, and will also feature guest appearances by such hip-hop heavyweights as the Game, Chingy, Ludacris, T.I., Nate Dogg and Wyclef Jean.

As an added bonus, Quik has convinced all four members of R&B act Jodeci to reunite for the first time in nearly 10 years for the track "Quik's Groove."

"Trauma" is DJ Quik's first new studio album since 2002's "Under tha Influence," which debuted at No. 7 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

VelvetA proposed reality show set at a Manhattan rock club is drawing interest from several cable networks, sources say.

Original Media ("Miami Ink") is shopping around "Snitch," which takes place at the New York venue of the same name whose owners include Velvet Revolver members Scott Weiland and Duff McKagan. The band, as well as Sum 41 and Cypress Hill, have made Snitch a popular post-concert haunt for the hard-rock subculture.

Original has shot a presentation of the proposed series that chronicles how the club is run, from the bouncers to the bartenders. In addition, each episode would feature a musical guest who would appear and perform on the show.
