Billboard Bits: Staind, Dionne Warwick, Black Crowes

Comments

StaindStaind has axed its upcoming European tour due to promotional commitments in the United States. The tour was to begin Sept. 19 in Dublin and last for a month. The group is hoping to reschedule the dates for March 2006.

"Unfortunately at this time, circumstances prevent us from coming over to perform live," Staind's members say in a statement. "We apologize for this inconvenience to our fans and look forward to seeing everyone in the future."

A fall North American tour will be announced shortly in support of the group's latest Atlantic album, "Chapter V," which recently debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200.

DionneVeteran singer Dionne Warwick has announced that her so-called "Farewell Tour" of Britain would not be her last. The artist also said she would shortly release an album of 40 duets to celebrate her four decades in music, with contributions from George Benson, the late Luther Vandross and her niece, Whitney Houston.

Warwick told the audience during her performance last Saturday (Sept. 3) at London's Hackney Empire that she would return on tour, and hinted that her timetable was linked to recent run-ins with the U.S. authorities; Warwick was arrested at Miami airport in 2002 for possession of marijuana.

Warwick's career actually began in 1962, with "Don't Make Me Over," the first of many songs written for her by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

ChrisThe Black Crowes' recent five-night stand at San Francisco's Fillmore was filmed for a DVD, for which a release date and a label have yet to be announced.
As previously reported, four of the shows can be purchased on CD via Instant Live.

The Crowes' fall tour began earlier this week in George, Wash., and will run through an Oct. 30-31 stand at Chicago's Riviera Theatre.
