Billboard Bits: Spacey, Setzer, COC

SpaceyKevin Spacey has dabbled very lightly in the world of song in the past, even contributing a version of "Mind Games" during a televised tribute to John Lennon a few years back. But he has so seriously taken his role as Bobby Darin in the upcoming feature film "By the Sea" that he'll take to the road next month on a 10-date tour performing as the late entertainer.

Spacey's Darin revue will kick off Dec. 3 in Ventura, Calif., and skip about the country and back before ending with a fitting Dec. 26-27 stand at the Stardust Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Along with his starring role, Spacey directed and co-produced the Lions Gate Films-distributed "By the Sea." The feature is set to open Dec. 10 in New York, Dec. 17 in Los Angeles and Dec. 29 in the rest of the United States. The Spacey-sung soundtrack will be released tomorrow (Nov. 23) via ATCO/Rhino Records.

Here are Spacey's tour dates:

Dec. 3: Ventura, Calif. (Ventura Theatre)
Dec. 5: San Francisco (Bimbo's 365 Club)
Dec. 6: Los Angeles (The Wiltern LG)
Dec. 11: Atlantic City, N.J. (Trump Taj Mahal)
Dec. 12: Somerville, Mass. (Somerville Theatre)
Dec. 14: New York (Rose Hall @ Lincoln Center)
Dec. 15: Mashantucket, Conn. (Foxwoods Casino)
Dec. 21: Chicago (House Of Blues)
Dec. 23: Miami (Barton G's)
Dec. 26-27: Las Vegas (Stardust Resort & Casino)

SetzerIn what's becoming something of an annual tradition, the Brian Setzer Orchestra has slated a brief holiday tour. Kicking off Dec. 16 in Pala, Calif., the run will last just five dates, hitting Coachella, Calif. (Dec. 17), Los Angeles (Dec. 18) and Atlantic City, N.J. (Dec. 31, Jan. 1).

The band's Surfdog set "Boogie Woogie Christmas" was recently re-released by Surfdog Records with new recordings of "Cactus Christmas" and Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run" added to the original dozen holiday favorites.

Additionally, the BSO's take on "The Nutcracker Suite" is part of the "Christmas With the Kranks" soundtrack, due tomorrow (Nov. 23) via Hollywood Records. The set boasts cuts from the likes of the Raveonettes, the Ramones, Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley, the Chesterfield Kings and more.

COCCorrosion Of Conformity is putting the finishing touches on a new album the heavy rock act hopes to release early in the New Year. Tentatively titled, "En los Brazos del Dios" (In the Arms of God), the set is being produced by longtime collaborator John Custer (Probot) in New Orleans and features Galactic drummer Stanton Moore.

Vocalist/guitarist Pepper Keenan describes the new work as a "bombastic, epic record, staying clear of the three-minute formula. It's not a nostalgic record by any means; it's big and ugly and heavy. Thematically, there's a lot of disgust on the record, directed inwardly and towards society in general, reflecting these times we all live in. A lot of people will be able to relate."

To coincide with the album's release, COC is planning a world tour.
