Snow Patrol has rescheduled a host of North American tour dates that were recently scrapped due to frontman Gary Lightbody's vocal ailments. The group will play radio station-sponsored festivals outside Seattle (Aug. 12) and Portland, Ore., (Aug. 13) and then a show in Boston (Aug. 15), before returning to Europe for several festival gigs.
The rest of the make-up shows run from Sept. 6 in Atlanta to Sept. 28 in San Diego. All tickets from the postponed dates will be honored at the new bookings. For the new itinerary, visit the band's Web site.
The legacy of late Houston rap legend DJ Screw will be celebrated on the upcoming CD/DVD "DJ Screw: The Untold Story." Due July 18 via Double Platinum Entertainment, the project rounds up interviews with longtime associates and collaborators of Screw, who pioneered the "chopped and screwed" production method that has infiltrated mainstream hip-hop. The audio portion features tracks from Bun B, Lil Flip, Z-Ro, Lil Keke and Big Pokey, among others.
On July 22, Screw will be the subject of DJ Screwfest in Pasadena, Texas. Bun B and his UGK colleague Pimp C are scheduled to appear, as are Mannie Fresh, Slim Thug and Lil Flip. Organizers also promise that Screw's "fully restored" Chevrolet Impala will also be on display.
Eurythmics principal Dave Stewart and songwriter Kara DioGuardi are up to something. The two hosted a screening June 12 in New York of "Platinum Weird," a documentary film (sort of) about a band by that name, which Stewart formed (supposedly) in 1974 with Erin Grace, a fictional (we think) singer who disappeared before achieving stardom.
The psychedelically inspired 40-minute film includes perfectly deadpan interviews with the real Mick Jagger, Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Ringo Starr, Bob Geldof, Christina Aguilera, Lindsay Lohan and others, each sharing recollection of the "original" Platinum Weird.
All of this sets up the launch of the actual Platinum Weird, Stewart and DioGuardi's new rock band. The act's self-titled album is due Aug. 22 on Interscope, while the film debuts July 5 on VH1.
In recent years, DioGuardi has emerged as an in-demand songwriter for hitmakers such as Kelly Clarkson, Ashlee Simpson and Gwen Stefani.
