Billboard Bits: Siren Fest, The Veils, Paul Anka

M.I.A., Cursive, Voxtrot and the Noisettes round out the bill for the 2007 Siren Festival, to be held July 21 at New York's Coney Island. Also new to the lineup for the Village Voice-sponsored free event are DJ sets from Gibby Haynes and Tarts Of Pleasure.

They join previously announced Siren Fest artists New York Dolls, We Are Scientists, Matt & Kim, the Black Lips, Dr. Dog, Lavender Diamond, the Detroit Cobras, Elvis Perkins and the Twilight Sad.

The Veils have added a series of dates to their current U.S. tour in support of their new album, "Nux Vomica" (World's Fair). New Zealand-born singer Finn Andrews and company will remain stateside through August and will continue adding American dates throughout the summer, many of which are with the Comas.

Tomorrow night's (June 29) stop at Spaceland in Los Angeles will feature support from local rock act Asher, which is recording its debut album with producer Mathias Schneeberger (Joseph Arthur, Twilight Singers).

Here are the Veils' new tour dates:

July 11: Dallas (Club Dada)
July 12: Austin, Texas (Stubb's Jr.)
July 13: Austin, Texas (the Mink)
July 20: Oklahoma City (LIT)
July 27: Tulsa, Okla. (D Fest)
Aug. 1: Lawrence, Kan. (Replay Lounge)

Originally due in May, Paul Anka's Decca debut has been renamed "Classic Songs, My Way" and is now due Aug. 28.
As previously reported, the album is a blend of new recordings of Anka's own hits and pop/adult contemporary staples like Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," Billy Joel's "I Go to Extremes," Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" and the Killers' "Mr. Brightside."

Anka took a bizarre detour with his prior album, 2005's "Rock Swings," released by Verve. On that project, he recast alternative rock evergreens like R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Oasis' "Wonderwall" with big-band backing.
