Cult rock hero Scott Walker will release his first studio album in more than a decade via a new deal with 4AD Records. Titled "The Drift," the set is due in May and is the follow-up to 1995's Drag City effort "Tilt," which was Walker's first album since 1983's "Climate of Hunter."
In addition, New York director Stephen Kijak is working on a Walker documentary that will also chronicle the making of "The Drift." The project, "Scott Walker: 30 Century Man," is expected later this year.
Walker has gone long periods without releasing music since his quartet of classic late 1960s releases ("Scott," "Scott 2," "Scott 3" and "Scott 4"). In recent years, he penned the soundtrack for the Leos Carax film "Pola X," curated the 2000 Meltdown Festival in London and produced Pulp's acclaimed 2002 studio album, "We Love Life."
Astralwerks will re-release Willy Mason's 2004 debut album, "Where the Humans Eat," March 7 in the United States. The 21-year-old artist signed to the New York-based label in December, having been drafted from the Conor Oberst's Team Love label. "I like Astralwerks and I like their roster," Mason tells Billboard.com. "I was happy to be approached by them."
He will be supporting the set during a U.S. tour with labelmate Beth Orton, starting March 12 in Washington, D.C.
Then, the artist plans a return to the studio in April and May to record his next full-length effort. He expects the album will be louder than the sparse "Where the Humans Eat" and will feature "a lot more players, just because I can." Mason is on tour with British singer/songwriter KT Tunstall in North America through Feb. 2.
Former Nine Inch Nails drummer Jerome Dillon's band nearly will release its debut album, "reminder," April 11 via Kufala Recordings/La Cosa Nostra. The set features guest appearances by Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers principal Greg Dulli, ex-12 Rounds vocalist Claudia Sarne, violinist Petra Haden and one-time NIN programmer Keith Hillebrandt.
Dillon exited Nine Inch Nails last October, after health problems forced him to drop off the group's tour in support of its latest Interscope album, "With Teeth." He was replaced by Australian drummer Alex Carapetis.
