Ricky Martin will be honored as the 2006 Latin Recording Academy person of the year. The artist will be feted at a tribute and concert on Nov. 1 at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers in New York, prior to the Latin Grammy ceremony the following evening.
He is being honored by LARAS both for his musical accomplishments, as well as worldwide charity work via the Ricky Martin foundation and his People for Children initiative. Martin was previously honored in 2004 with Billboard's Spirit of Hope award.
Meanwhile, the artist will today (Aug. 17) record an "MTV Unplugged" concert that will be released later this year as a CD and DVD.
Premiere reissue label Sundazed has teamed with legendary guitarist Dick Dale to reissue his complete album catalog on CD. The project will get underway later this year with an expanded edition of the 1962 album "Surfers' Choice," which is credited to Dale and the Del-Tones.
Reissues of 1963's "King of the Surf Guitar," the same year's "Checkered Flag," the 1964 albums "Mr. Eliminator" and "Summer Surf" and the 1965 concert set "Live at Ciro's" will follow next year, as will a rarities set featuring unreleased tracks. Various vinyl reissues are also planned.
Ferry Corsten will headline the Sept. 18 portion of Las Vegas' Life by Night series in conjunction with the 13th Billboard Dance Music Summit. His set at the city's VooDoo Lounge at the Rio will be preceded by performances from Agostino Carollo ("Spankox"), the Loose Cannons and Las Vegas-based acts DJ Scotty Boy and Robert Oleysyck.
