Billboard Bits: R.E.M, Mojave 3, Debelah Morgan

R.E.M. has crossed the Atlantic and decamped in Ireland, where the group will finish recording its 12th studio album, according to R.E.M. fan site Murmurs.com. The site reports that Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, and Mike Mills have rented a house in the Dublin area for three months, and that the finished product should hit stores via Warner Bros. sometime in the spring of 2001.

The group was previously tracking material -- which will comprise the follow-up to 1997's experimental-leaning "Up" -- in Vancouver. As previously reported, four of R.E.M.'s home videos -- "Pop Screen," "Tourfilm," "This Film Is On," and "Parallel" -- will be issued Aug. 22 on DVD.

U.K. rock outfit Mojave 3 will release "Excuses For Travellers" Sept. 5 on Beggars Banquet/4AD. The group, fronted by Neal Halstead, Rachel Goswell, and Ian McCutcheon of the late, critically hailed shoegazers Slowdive, will venture to North America for a handful of warm-up dates in late September, with stops planned for New York, Toronto, and Los Angeles. A full tour is in the works for October or November.

"Excuses," out since July in Mojave 3's native U.K., is the follow-up to the group's 1998 album "Out Of Tune."
