Billboard Bits: Mellencamp, Domingo, Malin and New Amsterdams

John MellencampJohn Mellencamp will stage a pair of intimate concerts July 29 in Los Angeles and July 31 in New York. Tickets for the show at Town Hall in New York will go on sale Friday (July 11), while seats for the L.A. show at UCLA's Royce Hall will go up on Sunday. Tickets for both shows are already available through the artist's official Web site.

The shows come in support of Mellencamp's standards album, "Trouble No More" (Columbia). Released four weeks ago, the set debuted at No. 31 on The Billboard 200. Currently, his only other scheduled live appearance will come Sept. 7 in Germain, Ohio, at the annual concert benefiting Farm Aid, a charitable organization he co-founded with Neil Young and Willie Nelson.

Placido DomingoOpera star Placido Domingo will lend his voice to the Hispanic-themed and -produced animated film "Sian Ka'an." A production of Tu Casa Entertainment's MUVI Films, the feature will also star Cheech Marin, and will be the first with a cast of bi-lingual stars who will voice their parts for English- and Spanish-speaking markets.

"Sian Ka'an" will tell the story of a young Mexican girl trying to save her father, as well as the "golden snail" from extinction. The feature will be directed by Raul Garcia, whose previous credits include work on the animated films "The Wild Thornberrys" and "Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius," as well as Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," "Pocahontas," "Lion King," and "Aladdin."

Former D Generation frontman Jesse Malin will join the New Amsterdams for a U.S. tour kicking off Aug. 9 in Philadelphia. Malin is currently on a U.K. tour that plays Birmingham, England, tonight (July 8). He's touring in support of his Artemis solo debut, "The Fine Art of Self Destruction."

Featuring Get Up Kids singer/guitarist Matthew Pryor and bassist Robert Pope, the New Amsterdams will be out in advance of their third album, "Worse For the Wear," due Aug. 5 via Vagrant. Dates are scheduled through a Sept. 6 show in Boulder, Col.
