Billboard Bits: McLachlan, Be Your Own Pet, Pepsi

The first Sarah McLachlan best-of, "Closer," will be released Oct. 7 via Arista. The 16-track set includes two new songs recorded with longtime producer Pierre Marchand, "U Want Me 2" and "Don't Give Up On Us."

Among the songs featured on "Closer" are the early hits "Possession" and "Good Enough," as well as "I Will Remember You," "Building a Mystery" and "Fallen."

An expanded version of "Closer" will also be available with a second disc of music, with details to be announced.

Rock outfit Be Your Own Pet will break up at the end of the month, the band announced on its MySpace page without much explanation. "It's been a blast, but the time has come for the four of us to go our separate ways," group members said.

Earlier this year, Be Your Own Pet canceled a planned stint on the Warped tour. The group was also forced to remove tracks from its latest album, "Get Awkward," by label Universal, which deemed them too violent.

Four U.K. shows scheduled for Aug. 22-26, including sets at the Reading and Leeds festivals, will be the band's last. However, guitarist Jonas Stein and drummer John Eatherly will carry on with their other project, Turbo Fruits.

Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip, Swizz Beatz and Kardinal Offishall helped kick off Pepsi's "Month in the Mix" celebration of their hip-hop DJ Division last night (July 31) at New York's Arena.

Beginning in 2006, Pepsi's DJ Division has sought to increase the brand's presence in the urban community with the help of DJ Drama, Clinton Sparks, DJ Enuff, DJ Pharris, Eric Cubeechee, Felli Fell, Irie and Quicksilva.

At the event, Kardinal Offishall performed his top 10 hit "Dangerous," while Q-Tip played his newest single, "Getting Up," from his forthcoming album, "The Renaissance." Busta Rhymes and Black Sheep's Dres joined Q-Tip for "Scenario" and "This or That," while Swizz Beatz closed the show as the surprise guest and performed his new cut, "That Oprah."

Pepsi will hold similar events for "Month in the Mix" in several other major markets, including Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, St. Louis and Washington D.C. throughout August.
