M. Ward and Ladyhawk are the first artists to be featured on the Fader magazine's 7-inch vinyl series. Ward's "Magic Trick (Kansas City Remix)" featuring My Morning Jacket's Jim James and Ladyhawk's "Soap" will be the debut A- and B-sides, respectively. In conjunction with Southern Comfort, the Fader is manufacturing 500 copies of each limited, colored record release.
Recently, Ward also completed work on his first movie score, which accompanies "The Go-Getter." The film -- which stars Zooey Deschanel, Jena Malone and Lou Taylor Pucci -- is set to premiere at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, where Ward will be performing on Jan. 21 as part of the Sundance Celebrates Music & Film series in Park City, Utah.
Ward is currently on tour in Australia and New Zealand.
Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood has compiled some of his favorite reggae tracks for a compilation to be released via Trojan/Sanctuary on March 6. "Jonny Greenwood is the Controller" features 17 tracks by veterans like Lee "Scratch" Perry, Gregory Isaacs and Desmond Dekker. Other Trojan acts like the Heptones, Marcia Aitken and Delroy Wilson are also represented.
The collection is the latest installment of the label's artist choice jukebox series. Trojan is also in the midst of compiling a two-disc collection of Perry songs, to be released March 20.
Radiohead received a reggae makeover last year with "Radiodread" by the Easy Star All-Stars, who re-interpreted the group's 1997 classic "OK Computer."
The last studio album by regional Mexican singer Valentin Elizalde, who died Nov. 25, will be released Feb. 13 on Universal Music Latino. "Lobo Domesticado" contains 10 tracks, eight of which were previously unreleased. The first single will be the title track, a Joan Sebastian cover.
Elizalde, 27, was shot to death in front of hundreds of fans as he entered his vehicle after a concert in Reynosa, Mexico. His manager, his driver and a friend were also killed in the shooting, which remains unsolved. Elizalde has three albums on Billboard's Top Latin Albums charts, including his last release, the No. 21-ranked "Vencedor."
