Billboard Bits: Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Syleena Johnson

Comments

Rapper Lupe Fiasco recently wrapped up the video for his second single, "Paris Tokyo," from his sophomore album, "The Cool." The video, which features the rapper on a camel trudging through the desert, sports a 1940's theme.

"Paris Tokyo" is slated to be serviced to music television programs early April, just before Fiasco begins his performance run on Kanye West's "Glow in the Dark" tour the same month.

Mixtape DJ Mick Boogie and lyricist Talib Kweli recently released a joint mixtape entitled "Talib Kweli & Mick Boogie Present: The MCEO Mixtape." The free mixtape is being distributed on various websites.

The tape is being released alongside Kweli's most recent single, "Hostile Gospel Pt. 1," from his 2007 album, "Eardrum." The set has moved 201,000 copies to-date in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

R&B singer/songwriter Syleena Johnson will be issuing her next studio album on her own label, Aneelys Records (Syleena spelled backwards), distributed by Federal/Universal Music Group. Titled "Chapter 4: Labor Pains," the forthcoming project, targeted for a Sept. 2, 2008 release, marks Johnson's fourth album.

The first single will be "Shoo Fly," produced by Traxster.

Johnson was formerly signed to Jive/Zomba and released three albums during that period: 2001's "Chapter 1: Love, Pain & Forgiveness;" 2002's "Chapter
2: The Voice;" and 2005's "Chapter 3: The Flesh," which was her highest-charting album at No. 15 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
