Billboard Bits: Les Paul, Animal Collective
Slash, Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora, ZZ Top's Billy F. Gibbons, James Burton, the Ventures, Jennifer Batten, Dennis Coffey, Lenny Kaye, Steve Lukather, Barbara Lynn and Alannah Myles have signed on for a Les Paul tribute concert to be held Nov. 15 at Cleveland's State Theatre.
The event is part of the American Music Masters series and presented by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Case Western Reserve University and Gibson Guitar. Tickets are on sale now.
Paul, now 93, still performs two shows each Monday night at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York. He joined artists like Slash, Sambora and the Goo Goo Dolls' Johnny Rzeznik for the just-released collection "Les Paul and Friends: A Tribute To a Legend," which arrived Sept. 30 via Immergent.
Indie rock experimentalists Animal Collective will unveil its ninth album, "Merriweather Post Pavilion," Jan. 20 via Domino. The 11-track set, apparently named after an amphitheatre in Columbia, Md., was recorded in Oxford, Miss.
It's the follow-up to 2007's "Strawberry Jam," which has sold 49,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Animal Collective is on tour internationally through Nov. 13 in Lima, Peru.
