Korn frontman Jonathan Davis has been released from a London hospital, where he has been treated over the past four days for the blood ailment immune thrombocytopenic purpura. As reported yesterday (June 12), Korn was forced to scrap its remaining European tour dates while David recovers.
"The doctors have determined that this was an isolated incident and that after a few weeks my recovery will be complete," Davis says in a statement. "I will be ready to rock on the Family Values tour this summer."
That outing, with support from Deftones, Stone Sour, Flyleaf and Dir en grey, kicks off July 27 in Virginia Beach, Va.
Thrice frontman Dustin Kensrue will embark on a solo acoustic tour July 27 in Philadelphia. Lucero's Ben Nicols will support on the East Coast leg of the trek, while former Hot Water Music member Chuck Ragan and Yellow Red Sparks will open the West Coast portion.
The tour comes as Kensrue takes a break from writing for Thrice's next Island studio album to finish his first solo release. The project was inspired by a brief solo tour the artist undertook in 2004, live recordings of which spread quickly online.
Thrice's 2005 album, "Vheissu," debuted at a career-best No. 15 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 195,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Jazz guitarist extraordinaire John McLaughlin will on Aug. 1 release his next studio album, "Industrial Zen." The eight-track Verve offering finds McLaughlin returning to his trademark electric guitar, having gone acoustic for 2003's "Thieves and Poets."
The artist is backed on the album by longtime collaborators such as drummer Dennis Chambers and bassist Matthew Garrison, plus keyboardist Gary Husband, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan and tabla player Zakir Hussain. Guitarist Eric Johnson guests on the track "New Blues Old Bruise."
British vocalist Martina Topley-Bird is at work on her sophomore album with producer Danger Mouse, currently riding a hot streak as half of the new group Gnarls Barkley. The set is due early next year via Independiente. It will be the follow-up to 2003's "Quixotic," which was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.
