Billboard Bits: Kid Rock, Black Sabbath, Ronnie Dawson

Comments

KidKid Rock has selected a cover of Bad Company's classic rock favorite "Feel Like Makin' Love" as the first single from his new album. The self-titled set is due Nov. 11 from Lava/Atlantic. Rock's cover is due to hit U.S. radio stations next week; the original version of "Feel Like Makin' Love" hit No. 10 on the Billboard pop singles chart in 1975.

As previously reported, Rock is nominated for favorite pop/rock male artist and favorite pop/rock album (for 2001's "Cocky) at the 31st American Music Awards, to be handed out Nov. 16 on ABC.

BlackWarner Bros./Rhino Records has postponed the release of its box set "Black Box: The Complete Original Black Sabbath (1970-1978)" to 2004, due to production delays. The nine-disc collection was originally pegged for a Nov. 4 release date.

As previously reported, the box will consist of remastered versions of the band's eight original studio albums as well as a DVD boasting live performances of "Iron Man," "Paranoid" and a cover of "Blue Suede Shoes," plus a promotional clip for the 1970 album "Black Sabbath." The box will come packaged with an 80-page book including all the lyrics to each album alongside vintage photographs, a group timeline and essays.

RonnieRockabilly singer/guitarist Ronnie Dawson died Tuesday at his East Dallas home after a year-long fight with throat cancer. He was 64.

As a teenage rock'n'roll guitar prodigy in the '50s, Dawson recorded under the handle "Rockin' Ronnie D." for the Big D label in Dallas. His best-known numbers include "Rockin' Bones" (later covered by the Cramps) and "Action Packed." In the late '80s, Dawson, who was lionized by English rockabilly fans, revived his career with a series of albums for the U.K.'s No Hit Records. He later recorded for the Crystal Clear, Upstart and Yep Roc labels.
