Billboard Bits: Guided By Voices, Leona Naess, Oasis

GBVGuided By Voices have been forced to cancel a host of summer tour dates after drummer Jon McCann broke his hand over the weekend. The group will fulfill two festival engagements -- Saturday (July 21) at the Siren Festival on New York's Coney Island and Wednesday (July 25) at WPLY Philadelphia's Fez-tival -- with former drummer Jim MacPherson sitting in for McCann. GBV will attempt to reschedule the affected dates for the fall; in the meantime, refunds are available at point of purchase.

Stay tuned to the group's official Web site for more information.

Leona NaessSinger/songwriter Leona Naess will on Sept. 25 release her sophomore MCA album, "I Tried to Rock But You Only Tried to Roll." The album is the follow-up to last year's "Comatised," which featured the infectious single "Charm Attack." The new set's title track will serve as the first single and is due to hit radio on July 30.

"This record has a taste of the last but I feel it's more focused and just cool and although more upbeat -- it's still melancholy (I hate describing my own music)," Naess writes on her official Web site. "I'll leave it for someone else to pick apart."

In advance of the album, Naess will perform a series of shows (July 30, Aug. 14, Aug. 29) at New York's Mercury Lounge.

OasisOasis is hoping to complete its next studio album before the end of the year, guitarist Noel Gallagher told BBC's Radio 1 today (July 18). "The next three or four months are going to be intense to get the album finished," he said, confirming that his brother Liam "has written the most songs this time around. There will definitely be one of his songs on the album and probably two or more."

Noel said fans can expect to hear some of the new songs during Oasis' six-date "anniversary" tour, kicking off Oct. 7 in London. As previously reported, the tour commemorates the 10-year anniversary of the group's first live gig in its hometown of Manchester.
