Everclear's new studio album, "Welcome to the Drama Club," will be released Sept. 12 via Eleven Seven Music. The self-produced effort is an homage to artists "late '60s/early '70s 'Stones, Otis Redding, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Humble Pie, Dylan, Tom Petty, the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen," according to frontman Art Alexakis.
The album's first single, "Hater," will hit rock radio July 17 and is streaming via the band's MySpace.com page. "Drama Club" is the follow-up to the band's 2003 Capitol swansong, "Slow Motion Daydream," which peaked at No. 33 on The Billboard 200.
Everclear is playing a number of festival dates this summer, including a show tomorrow (June 30) appearance at Summerfest in Milwaukee.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Jeremy Spencer will release his first album in more than two decades, "Precious Little," July 18 via Blind Pig.
One of the founding members of Fleetwood Mac, Spencer released his last solo set, "Flee," in 1979. He has performed in public only a handful of times since then, but did recently aid former bandmate Mick Fleetwood and his solo band on the latter's "Something Big" album.
The 57-year-old Brit abruptly left the pre-Buckingham/Nicks incarnation of Fleetwood Mac in 1971 to join the religious group Children Of God.
Enduring rock trio Dead Moon will be saluted on the double-disc retrospective "Echoes of the Past," due Sept. 12 via Sub Pop. The 49-track compilation was compiled by Dead Moon vocalist/guitarist Fred Cole and features such staples as "It's O.K.," "DOA" and "Walking on My Grave."
The band will be on the road in Europe throughout the rest of the year, beginning Sept. 14 in Groningen, Holland. Also in the works is a fall DVD release for the Dead Moon documentary "Unknown Passage: The Dead Moon Story."
