RichRock'n'roll icon Little Richard has been tapped to deliver the keynote address at the 2004 South By Southwest (SXSW) music conference and festival. The artist will deliver the Austin, Texas, event's traditional opening speech on March 18, and is slated to headline that evening at the Austin Music Hall.

Folk legend Joan Baez has also been confirmed as the subject of a live interview session during the conference. She joins
previously confirmed participants Ani DiFranco and Flaming Lips principal Wayne Coyne.

Dozens of acts are confirmed to perform during the March 17-21 SXSW event, which follows the SXSW Interactive conference and runs concurrent with the SXSW Film Festival. For details, visit sxsw.com.

FugaziAlthough its immediate future is in doubt, pioneering independent rock act Fugazi has not broken up, according to a post on the
Web site of the group's label home, Dischord Records. "Over the years the band has circulated in and out of active recording and touring according to the ebb and flow of their personal lives," the message reads. "Two band members now have families with children and currently their concerns are being put above the band's."

It continues, "As of this moment Fugazi is not actively playing or recording but that doesn't mean the band won't become active again in a year, two or possibly never -- such is life." Fugazi's last album was 2001's "The Argument," which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and has sold 92,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

For now, group members are busy in various projects. Vocalist/guitarist Ian MacKaye is playing in a duo called the Evens with Amy Farina, while drummer Brendan Canty has worked with Amy Domingues and Fugazi sideman Jerry Busher in Garland Of Hours. Bassist Joe Lally recorded an album with the band Black Sea, which has since been renamed Decahedron.
