Billboard Bits: Christmas Jam, Lee Hazlewood

In addition to his own band, Gov't Mule, Warren Haynes has drafted Dave Matthews, the John Popper Project featuring DJ Logic, the Taj Mahal Trio and Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives for the 18th consecutive Christmas Jam. The show will be held Dec. 16 at the Asheville (N.C.) Civic Center. Pre-sale ticketing begins Monday (Nov. 13) via Xmasjam.com.

Also on the bill this year are New Orleans Social Club, Mike Barnes, Umphrey's McGee's Brendan Bayliss, Col. Bruce Hampton, Edwin McCain, Widespread Panic's Dave Schools and Randall Bramblett. In addition, Haynes will host a jam session the night before the show, which will be broadcast live on Asheville station WNCW and its Web site.

Post-production proceeds from Christmas Jam benefit Habitat for Humanity. Prior to the 2003 concert, Haynes gave keys to a family for their new Habitat for Humanity home, which was constructed with funds from the 2002 concert.

Lee Hazlewood will release his last album, "Cake or Death," Jan. 23 via Ever Records. The 77-year-old songwriter, who is best known for his extensive work with Nancy Sinatra, tapped guest artists and studio musicians like Ann Kristin Hedmark, Tommy Parsons, Richard Bennett and Al Casey to contribute to the release.

The 12-track set, named after a reference to a bit from Hazlewood's comic hero Eddie Izzard, features a darker version of "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" as well as another Hazlewood classic, "Some Velvet Morning," performed by Hazlewood's own granddaughter, Phaedra Dawn Stewart.
