Billboard Bits: 'Broadway Meets Country,' Sigur Ros

Comments

Country artists Lee Ann Womack, Josh Gracin, Raul Malo, Lorrie Morgan, Jamie O'Neal and SHeDAISY will join Broadway performers Dixie Carter, Laura Bell Bundy, Michael Cerveris, Brian D'Arcy James and Renee Elise Goldsberry for the second "Broadway Meets Country" benefit. The event will be held Oct. 30 at Nashville's James K. Polk Theater.

Proceeds will benefit the Tennessee Performing Arts Center and the Actors' Fund of America. Country acts will perform Broadway selections and vice versa, in addition to a handful of duets. The concert is part of Nashville Celebrates Country, a series of events leading up to the 40th annual CMA Awards.

Icelandic rock act Sigur Ros will reprise its score for the 2003 Merce Cunningham dance piece "Split Sides" during a Feb. 25, 2007, concert at Ziff Ballet Opera House in Miami. The group will perform its 20-minute piece "Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do," while Radiohead's 20-minute contribution will be played on tape.

"Split Sides" was premiered live by both bands Oct. 14, 2003, at Brooklyn's Academy of Music. Sigur Ros later recorded and commercially released its contribution, which features music boxes, glockenspiel, ballet shoes used as percussion and samples of Cunningham's voice and his tap shoes.
