Comments

The Beastie Boys will play a free show Oct. 21 in Lake Forest, Calif., as part of the Etnies Goofy Vs. Regular skate contest. Tickets are being handed out at skate and surf shops throughout the Los Angeles area; details can be found on the rap trio's Web site. Two days later, the Beastie Boys will also perform at the Joint in Las Vegas.

Afterward, the group moves on to South America for a Oct. 29 and 31 appearance at the Tim festival in Rio and Curitiba, Brazil, the BUE festival on Nov. 3 in Buenos Aires and a headlining Nov. 4 show in Santiago, Chile.

Rock act the Alkaline Trio is shifting from Vagrant, which issued its last three albums, to V2. The company is planning a summer or fall release for the follow-up to 2005's "Crimson," which has sold 185,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The band has most recently been on the road with Against Me!, often performing its 1998 debut, "Goddamnit!," in its entirety. Frontman Matt Skiba also released an album with F-Minus' Josiah Steinbrick under the moniker Heavens.

Jazz vocalist Jane Monheit has signed a new deal with Concord Records, which will release her next album, a collaboration with producer Jorge Calandrelli, in March.

Monheit has been a mainstay on Billboard's Top Jazz Albums chart since her 2000 debut, "Never Never Land," which spent more than a year on the tally. She most recently recorded for Epic; her 2005 album "The Season" reached No. 8 on Top Jazz Albums.

"Working on my new album has been an absolute pleasure and I look forward to making more great music here at my new home," the artist says.
